My heart beats for storytelling
My heart beats for storytelling, especially for compelling narratives that come to life through sound. This also applies to the seemingly dry world of radio news. Some may say: As a news anchor you’re just presenting the news. Nope. My work is not only about selecting, evaluating, formulating and delivering news content live. I always try to keep in mind that this is not just about information, but also about telling a story that offers a value, is interesting and holds the audience's attention. Additionally, I enjoy creating longer features on culture and digital topics, and I was nominated for the Ernst-Schneider-Award in 2018 for my radio piece on crypto mining. Additionally, I enjoy creating longer features on culture and digital topics, and I was nominated for the Ernst-Schneider-Award in 2018 for my radio piece on crypto mining. I gained experience in the realm of online and video content at Süddeutsche Zeitung, where I was a valued member of the video team for several years.
I spend several months a year in the USA. In 2022, I participated in the RIAS Commission Berlin's international program and had the privilege of working as a correspondent for ARD (Germany's largest public broadcasting network) in Washington D.C. during the same year.
The Beginning:
Ever since I was a child, I dreamt of becoming a journalist. Okay, to be honest, that's not true. When I was young, I wanted something entirely different - I wanted to be an actress, admired and celebrated by all. I wanted to embody various roles, master new skills, perform spectacular stunts, wear extraordinary outfits, travel the world, and above all, I wanted one thing: to touch people's hearts with the stories we tell in our films or on stage, to provoke thought and action, and ideally, bring some reconciliation to their lives.
So, it all began at the theater, specifically at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. What a magnificent place it was - the red, velvet-covered seats, the ornate stucco, the gold-adorned chandeliers, and that vast stage. It was there that it all started.
After completing my acting studies (ZAV), I worked there as an actress for several years and concurrently assisted in directing various productions. For me, the theater stage is the most magical place in the world. To get more background knowledge and to have an university degree, I pursued German studies, art history, and cultural anthropology at the University of Hamburg and the University of Basel.
The Turning Point.
After graduating university in 2009, I headed to Munich and became a journalist. Why? Well, even though it may sound like the fulfillment of my dreams, in the long run, it wasn't. The reality of the acting business often had little to do with the visions I had seen and wished for myself personally. However, I can still tell stories as a narrator and journalist, only now they are not fictional stories but true ones. The questions of "why" and "for what" remains, as does the purpose. I must admit, even though I've turned away from acting I do miss it from time to time. But in a way, it still accompanies me.
The Happy Ending:
I continue to engage in this field, lending my voice to film synchronizations, audiobooks, image films, podcasts, computer games, and documentaries (BBC, SkyArts, Channel4, Goethe Institut, among others). And I teach others how to tell their stories. Since 2015, I've been sharing my experiences and expertise in communication and public speaking as a coach and consultant. My focus is on assisting individuals preparing for stage appearances, presentations, or launching their own corporate podcasts. I'm here for those who seek to exude self-confidence, have fun, and achieve success through effective communication in their professional endeavors.
